What is the TruStage® Accidental Death Benefit Rider?
It's an optional add-on to new TruStage® Term Life policies. If the insured dies due to a qualifying accident, the rider pays an additional death benefit on top of the base term coverage amount.
Is the rider available on existing TruStage® Term Life policies?
No. The rider is only available on new TruStage® Term Life policies going forward. It cannot be added to an existing policy after it's been issued.
How old does a client need to be to add the rider?
The rider is available for clients aged 20 to 69 at the time of application.
Where is the rider available?
All states except New York and California.
How much coverage can a client add with the rider?
Between $25,000 and $500,000, up to three times the base term coverage amount. For example, a client with a $150,000 term policy could add up to $450,000 in ADB coverage.
Does the rider require additional health questions or underwriting?
No. The rider is approved automatically alongside any eligible TruStage® Term Life application. No extra health questions are asked.
How are rider premiums calculated?
Premiums are level and set at the client's age and gender at the time of issue. They do not change over the life of the rider.
Does adding the rider affect billing or add a separate carrier?
No. The rider is issued through MEMBERS Life Insurance Company — the same carrier as the base TruStage® Term Life policy — and appears on the same bill.
What qualifies as an accidental death under this rider?
The rider covers deaths that occur as a direct result of an unexpected accident. Additional benefits are paid when the insured's death meets the rider's definition of accidental death and is not excluded.
Exclusions/Limitations
The Accidental Death Benefit Amount will not be payable if the Insured dies as a result of any of the following causes:

- death caused or contributed to by committing or attempting to commit a felony; death occurring while the Insured is incarcerated; or death caused or contributed to by aeronautics, which includes hang-gliding, skydiving, parachuting, ultralight, soaring, ballooning, or parasailing.
What if a client wants to remove the rider after it's issued?
Removal requests go through TruStage® directly.
