What is a passkey?
A passkey is a new way to log in without needing a phone or SMS code. Instead of waiting for a text message, you verify yourself using something already on your device — like a Windows Hello PIN, fingerprint, or Face ID. Your device becomes your login key.
How is a passkey different from the SMS code I use today?
- SMS OTP: log in → wait for a text → type a 6-digit code.
- Passkey: log in → tap fingerprint or enter PIN → you're in.
What devices and methods does passkey support?
· Windows PC: Windows Hello PIN, fingerprint, or face
· Mac: TouchID
· iPhone/iPad: FaceID or TouchID
· Android: Fingerprint or screen lock PIN
Is a passkey more secure than SMS OTP?
Yes. SMS codes can be intercepted or forwarded. A passkey is tied to your specific device and can't be sent or stolen remotely.
Does Ethos see my fingerprint or face data?
No. Your biometric never leaves your device. Ethos only receives confirmation that you verified - it never sees or stores your fingerprint or face.
